State BJP President BY Vijayendra said that the decision to hike milk and curd prices by Rs 8 and Rs 12-14 per litre, respectively, was placing an undue burden on the common man.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Vijayendra said that while the Opposition welcomed the State government’s move to help dairy farmers earn an additional Rs 7 per litre with the milk price that came into effect on 1 November, the burden had been passed onto the general public.
Notably, a few varieties of toned milk were actually hiked by Rs 12, instead of the Rs 8 announced by the government.
“The burden should be taken on by the State government,” Vijayendra contended.
Hotel associations have warned that the tea, coffee and snack prices will rise due to the hike in milk and curd. Smaller hotels may disproportionately feel the pinch.
Even taxes on petrol and diesel have increased, and stamp duty has gone up, Vijayendra added.
